A significant portion of the New Testament is made up of epistles, or letters. However, letters in the ancient world had variable forms and structures that differ from our twenty-first century concept of a letter. Therefore, studying and understanding this genre from the perspective of the original audience is invaluable for any student of scripture. Using Paul's letter to the Philippians as a model, Dr. Gordon Fee instructs us on the importance of learning how to establish a good reading strategy as we approach the study of scripture so that we can become good students of scripture.

Dr. Fee begins the teaching by establishing several reasons why modern readers are at a disadvantage when it comes to understanding and reading scripture. He then discusses background information and the historical context of Paul's letter to the Philippians as part of establishing a good reading strategy. He also identifies the nature of the letter and shows how Paul communicated his message to the Philippians through the use of "exemplary paradigms" which centered on glorifying Jesus Christ.

Building on that foundation, Dr. Fee then analyzes the text in three large sections and makes practical applications for the modern church. In the first section (1:12–26 and 4:10–20), he shows how important Jesus Christ and the gospel were to Paul as he both instructed the Philippians on how to "live Christ" in adversity and reaffirmed the deep friendship and commitment they had with each other in Christ. In the second section (1:27–2:18), he shows that Paul used Christ's example of humility and obedience as a paradigm for believers who were experiencing conflicts in relationships both with one another and with those outside the church. In the third section (3:1–4:3), Dr. Fee shows how Paul used his own life and experiences as examples to encourage the Philippians to follow Christ's example, to "live Christ", and to know Christ, who is the ultimate paradigm for His people.

This teaching series will enable you to have a better understanding of Philippians as well as equip you to better study other epistles in the New Testament.

. she would look best in larger pieces or sets, but outrageously large pieces will not necessarily be the best look for the larger woman.

    face

if your face is oval, you can wear a wide range of shapes, sizes and styles of earrings. if you have an oblong, square, triangular or heart shaped face, the combination of your hair style and your earrings can help enhance your face

the width of your face as well as your jaw width can be enhanced or camouflaged by wearing the right earrings
